March Minutes

SUMMARY OF COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES- MAR 2009

Although I was not there to observe the change to the meeting format, I understand there have been some very favourable comments. Thanks to everyone who helped set up the room and clear up afterwards.

The last practical night caused a real hum, and it was good to see more experienced members helping new members. If the buzz was anything to go by, it was a worthwhile exercise, and we hope that newer members gained from it.

On a not so positive note, there was a very poor turn out for the Brisbane architecture outing on 22 February. As I understand it, only three members went to Brisbane, and it beggars the question “Why?” If you would like to offer some input, please contact a member of the committee.

March Outing. Light for photography is best in the early morning or the late afternoon (architecture was an exception). Light during the middle of the day is very flat and results in images that lack definition, mood and interest. We hope that members will support the outing to Fingal Head on 29 March. Meeting time is 7.00am Queensland time, in the Fingal Head car park near the little shop. No car pooling has been arranged, but it you would like to get together with other members to car pool, please make your own arrangements. Fingal Head is a very interesting location. The clipboards will be available at future club nights, and we ask you put your name on the list if you intend participating in these club events.

(I can’t go on a Sunday but went down on 2nd March. This pic was taken at 5.59am, sunrise was 5.40am. LIke the Gold Coast there was the ubiquitous cloud bank on the horizon so that lowers the odds of a clean sunrise. If the rocks are dry then it is easy climbing but if they are wet I’d tread carefully - David Magahy)

March Practical night. Jeff will be contacting members separately about the March practical night which will be Still Life.

ColorMunki Presentation. This is a final reminder about the ColorMunki Presentation at KOA rooms tomorrow Thursday 6 March at 7.30pm. A lot of very useful information is bound to be provided. Entry fee is $5 per person.

People’s Choice Award. Due to a lack of participation this award is being suspended for the time being. Generally it works better with Impact Judging.

PSQ Photographic Competition. It is time to start thinking about images (colour prints, mono prints, digital and slides) for the PSQ Competition. This year, a prize of $500 will be donated to the overall winning club, by the Photographic Society of Queensland. Your Society likes to submit a comprehensive entry, and looks to members for support. Subjects for this year are Creative, Social Documentary, People and Pictorial.

The Committee was very sorry to accept Lorraine Jones’ resignation as Treasurer. Lorraine was an involved and committed member and we will miss her input. We welcome Rhonda Ramadge as Acting Treasurer, and she will fill this casual vacancy until the AGM. We extend warm thanks to both Lorraine and Rhonda.

We also extend a warm welcome to the following new members: Albert Lewis, Brett Wybrew, Chris Ward, Laura Diaz, Maryanne Souter, Dieter Lepahe and Simon Leonard. Please make them welcome at our club gatherings.
