Annual PSQ Competition

CALL FOR ENTRIES - ANNUAL PSQ COMPETITION

We would like to collect entries next Thursday night
(23rd April) – or we can receive them at anytime up to 2nd May - for the selection of our club entry to be held on Saturday morning, 2nd May.

Remember that there are 4 sections –
Pictorial, People, Social Documentary and Creative.

Entries can be either Prints or Projected Images (including slides).
Prints can be either Monochrome or Colour but need to be either in 16”x20” or 11”x14” mounts (see below for details).

Please do not think for a moment that you have to be in A Grade to enter!

GCPS currently has a number of very talented and creative newer members in B and AB Grades who are presenting some excellent quality fresh and very creative works.

It will only be a matter of time for a number of our newer members to acquire the necessary number of awards and pick up a bit more experience along the way and we will be seeing them competing in A Grade.

Some of these members are leading the way in GCPS with folios of their work on Red Bubble and Flickr and participating in the APS On-Line folios where their work is critiqued by some very experienced photographers and where they have the opportunity to similarly critique the work of these photographers. Indeed, they are more pro-active with their photography than some of our longer-established A-Grade members (myself included)!

So please, have a look though your work and consider getting a few of your images together to submit for selection for the GCPS entry into the PSQ Annual Photographic Competition.

We generally do quite well as a club. Most years we win a section or two in the PSQ Competition and currently hold the PSQ 5”x7” Colour Prints Perpetual Trophy (which has ceased as of 2009).

Thanks for your assistance with this

Environmental Photo Competition

THE ENVIRONMENTAL PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION 2009 (London)

CIWEM (The Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management) runs the Environmental Photographer of the Year, which is one of the fastest growing photographic competitions in the world. In 2008 we received over 1,400 entries from over 40 countries –we are hoping to increase this in the 2009 competition.

This is a serious competition that seeks to celebrate photographers who use their ability to raise awareness of environmental and social issues. It is open to all professional and amateur international photographers of any ages. This year’s categories are Changing Climates; A World of Difference; Quality of Life; The Natural World; and the Young Environmental Photographer of the Year (Under 21). EPOTY encourages entries that are contemporary, creative, experimental, resonant, original and beautiful.

The judging panel is made up of some of the most respected environmental photographers in the industry, including Gary Braasch, winner of the Ansel Adams Award for Conservation Photography, as well as senior environmentalists. Individual pieces of work will be judged on impact, creativity, composition, originality and technical abilities. Winners receive cash prizes, and all winning and highly commended entries are displayed in the international Environmental Photographer of the Year exhibitions. Copyright is retained by the photographer (see terms and conditions at www.ciwem.org/arts/photographer).

The competition is open until 5pm on 31st July 2009.
