PAN PAC MASTERS GAMES HEADS UP

Postby DavidM » July 31st, 2010, 2:51 pm

This is a heads up for GCPS members ahead of all other clubs.

Charles and I have been awarded the contract for the photography at Novembers Pan Pac Masters Games on the Gold Coast. Some of you have already been involved with me over the past 8 years (it's held every two years) while for others this will be a brand new opportunity. We have tried various approaches in the past to meet the needs of the organisers, Queensland Events Gold Coast, the competitors, 10,000 or thereabouts and ourselves.

It is a big task and this year we have what we believe to be our best arrangement yet.

We have three months to prepare for the event. Usually we have been lucky to have had 3 weeks. We will be organising a training morning in October where Charles and I will share our sporting photography knowledge with you to help you make better images, which will ultimately increase image sales which in turn will put more money into your pocket. We haven't done the numbers yet but we expect that for the sale of a $15 print, you will pick up $9 to $10 and the rest will be to pay postage, packaging, GST, credit card fees, web hosting fees etc. In return we will be asking for a small fee to attend this training and induction course. More on that later.

Check out the official website at here.

We have registered a domain www.mastersphotos.com.au and will have a dedicated website set up soon which will include ftp access facilities. We will be showing you how to resize, rename and upload your images to the website for inclusion in the image gallery.

The organisers will be advertising our presence heavily via their website, Facebook and Twitter. We hope to build a strong following on these sites to create a demand for your images, (and ours of course).

Please discuss this opportunity here and register your availability with a private message to me at this stage. There are over 30 sports where you can get up close and personal, a 200 mm lens is more than ample for many of them. In fact medal presentations using a standard lens will get you as many sales as a spectacular action shot. But they won't get you any merits in club comps so go for the action too.

Love it!!
I wrote a song, but I can't read music. Every time I hear a new song on the radio, I think: Hey, maybe I wrote that.

This is an opportunity you must try and make yourself available for. It is a great chance to get up close and personnel and be a "Pro" for a week. Even if you don't get a sale the experience is well worth it. The access you have is to the better spots for all events in the front row front row, some times even on the field, or judges boat or whatever. I have been lucky enough to be involved a couple of times, and hope to again, albeit in a limited way this time. Previously I took a week off work (holiday pay) to do it, this year no holiday pay so will be limited to the time I can afford but I don't think David or Charles will have a problem with anybody just doing what they can, the more pics the better I would think. If I remember last time there were photographers from lots of other clubs involved and a few million pics were taken for David to upload, I can see the intelligent thought process of the photographer uploading them themselves. Be quick and register.
Everywhere you go, there you are..

I do whatever the little voices tell me to do..

Yeah, great, I'm definitely interested in this opportunity and have plenty of time in November to get involved.
